NEW DELHI: Stretching their winning streak at Siri Fort, India eased past Scotland 4-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the mixed team event in badminton on Wednesday.

The hosts, who topped Group D with four consecutive wins, will now square up with Group C runners-up Canada on Thursday.

Malaysia topped Group A and will meet Group B runners-up New Zealand in the quarters while Group B leader Singapore will clash with Australia in the other last eight clash. England play Scotland.

When Valiyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta wrapped up the first game of the mixed doubles at 21-11, it seemed the Indians would cruise to victory. But the determined Scots fought back and stunned the World No.11 pair by taking the second game 21-19. It was, in fact, the first game the Indians had lost in this team championship. Though the duo managed to scrape through 21-18 in the third game, their game was erratic and riddled with unforced errors.

Parupalli Kashyap and Saina Nehwal avoided further trouble as they powered their team to an unassailable 3-0 lead with singles triumphs. Men's pair Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas made it 4-0, before women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa conceded the women's double tie.
